Magnaflux L-10 AC Electromagnetic Coil – 115V

The Magnaflux L-10 is a portable AC electromagnetic coil specifically designed to detect transverse defects in shafts, spindles, and similar cylindrical components. Capable of inspecting parts up to 10 inches (250 mm) in diameter, the L-10 features a wear-resistant resin coating, a hands-free footswitch, and 12 feet of flexible supply cable — making it a complete, field-ready solution for longitudinal magnetization and demagnetization.

Key Features

  • 10-Inch Inspection Capacity: Inspects parts up to 10 in (250 mm) in diameter — ideal for shafts, spindles, and cylindrical components
  • 2,800 Amp Turns: Strong AC magnetic field for reliable transverse defect detection
  • Hands-Free Footswitch: Energize the coil without interrupting part handling or positioning
  • Wear-Resistant Resin Coating: Durable construction for demanding field and shop inspection environments
  • Demagnetization Capability: Built-in AC demagnetization for post-inspection part processing
  • Completely Portable: Lightweight design with 12 ft (3 m) flexible power cord for easy positioning
  • UKCA & CE Certified: Meets European and UK conformity requirements
Pro NDT Tip

Coil Positioning for Maximum Sensitivity: For best results detecting transverse defects, center the part within the coil and ensure the part-to-coil diameter ratio is appropriate — ideally the part should fill at least 10% of the coil cross-section. For long shafts, inspect in overlapping sections with at least a 10% overlap to avoid missing indications at section boundaries. Always demagnetize after inspection using the L-10’s built-in AC demagnetization capability.

Applications

  • Transverse defect detection in shafts, spindles, and axles
  • Longitudinal magnetization of cylindrical components
  • In-service inspection of rotating equipment components
  • Aerospace, automotive, and heavy industry MPI inspections
  • Post-inspection demagnetization of ferromagnetic parts

OPERATION

1. Position the coil on a bench or clamp vertically in vise.

2. Magnetic Particle Inspection

  • Place part inside coil. Magnetic field direction is along the axis of coil (longitudinal).
  • Press foot switch to energize. Apply magnetic particles to part. While energized, blow off excess powder to reveal indications.
  • Evaluate indications for size, shape, and relevant locations.

3. Demagnetization

  • Place part inside coil.
  • Press foot switch to energize. Withdraw part from coil, up to 18 in / 45 cm distance, while coil is energized.
