Magnaflux EV6500 High-Intensity Dual-Light LED UV Lamp (SKU: 626803)

The Magnaflux EV6500 is a professional-grade, hand-held LED UV lamp engineered for fluorescent non-destructive testing applications including fluorescent penetrant testing (PT) and fluorescent magnetic particle inspection (MT). Delivering 7,000 µW/cm² of high-intensity UV-A illumination across a 10-inch uniform beam — the widest coverage area in its class — the EV6500 maximizes inspection efficiency without sacrificing indication sensitivity.

What sets the EV6500 apart is its integrated white light LEDs, providing over 150 ft-candles of concentrated visible flood light in the same unit. This eliminates the need for a separate flashlight during flaw location, post-inspection documentation, and part handling — making the EV6500 the most versatile hand-held UV lamp in the Magnaflux lineup. Designed for both in-line and hand-held use, it decreases inspection cycle time while improving indication visibility across critical NDT applications.

Key Features

  • Industry-Leading 10-Inch Beam Width: Uniform coverage with no hot-spots — the widest beam in its class for faster, more thorough inspections
  • 7,000 µW/cm² UV-A Output: High-intensity UV-A illumination for superior fluorescent indication visibility and detection sensitivity
  • Integrated White Light LEDs: Over 150 ft-candles of concentrated visible flood light built in — no separate flashlight needed for documentation or part handling
  • Dual-Mode Operation: Switch between UV-A and white light modes for seamless transition between fluorescent inspection and visible flaw documentation
  • Broad-Beam Profile: Designed for both in-line and hand-held use to decrease inspection time while improving indication visibility
  • Portable & Hand-Held: Compact form factor for field inspections, inspection booths, and in-line production environments
Pro NDT Tip

Using the EV6500’s Dual-Light Capability Effectively: The EV6500’s integrated white light LEDs are one of its most practical features — but the order in which you use them matters. Always complete your UV-A fluorescent inspection first, then switch to white light for indication marking and documentation. Turning on white light during fluorescent inspection will reduce your eyes’ dark adaptation and can cause you to miss dim indications.

With a 10-inch beam, the EV6500 covers significantly more area per pass than standard 6–7 inch lamps. To take full advantage, maintain a consistent lamp-to-surface distance of 15 inches (38 cm) as specified in ASTM E3022 and use slow, deliberate passes with slight overlap to ensure no area is missed.

The 7,000 µW/cm² output exceeds the ASTM E1417 minimum of 1,000 µW/cm² by a wide margin — verify irradiance at the inspection surface with a calibrated UV radiometer at the start of each shift to maintain compliance.

Applications

  • Fluorescent liquid penetrant testing (PT) inspections
  • Fluorescent magnetic particle testing (MT) applications
  • In-line production inspection requiring dual UV and white light
  • Aerospace and industrial component inspection
  • Field inspection applications requiring portable dual-light functionality
  • Post-inspection documentation and indication marking

OPERATION
1. Connect the lamp to the power supply.
2. Connect the power supply to line power.
3. Press the power button on the rear of the lamp housing to turn on the UV LEDs.
4. The lamp will immediately be at full intensity and will stabilize within 5 minutes.

5. On EV6500 models only switch from UV mode to visible light mode, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds.
6. To turn off, press the power button on the rear of the lamp housing.
NOTE: The EV6000 and EV6500 are designed for continuous use; operating the lamp only when required will increase the lifespan of the UV LEDs.

MAINTENANCE
• Check UV-A intensity at regular intervals using a calibrated UV-A Meter (320-400 nm range)
• UV-A intensity readings should be taken with the lamp positioned 15 in / 38 cm from the lamp filter to the face of the sensor
• Use mild soap and a damp cloth to clean the lamp housing as needed
• Do not spray lamp or power supply or immerse any part in liquid

Q: What is the difference between the Magnaflux EV6000 and the EV6500?

A: While both lamps are built on the same rugged, fanless platform, the primary difference lies in their light output capabilities. The EV6000 is a dedicated UV-A lamp designed strictly for fluorescent inspections. The EV6500, however, is a Dual-Light LED lamp. It features integrated white light LEDs, allowing technicians to toggle between UV-A for fluorescent inspection and high-intensity white light for visible NDT methods or general surface work without switching tools.

Q: Which lamp has a higher UV-A intensity?

A: The EV6500 is a higher-intensity unit, featuring a peak UV-A intensity of 7,000 µW/cm² at 15 inches, compared to the 5,000 µW/cm² provided by the EV6000. While the EV6000 is often preferred for aerospace applications that require a specific, lower intensity to meet certain "no-exceed" thresholds, the EV6500 is the choice for inspectors who need maximum brightness for detecting the faintest indications in high-ambient light environments.

Q: Does the EV6500 eliminate the need for a separate flashlight during inspections?

A: Yes. Because the Magnaflux EV6500 includes a built-in white light LED, it allows you to perform visible light inspections (like checking for WCP-2 White Contrast Paint coverage) and fluorescent inspections with the same device. This "Dual-Light" capability is particularly useful for field technicians working in dark environments where carrying a separate flashlight is inconvenient.

Q: Are the beam patterns and certifications the same for both models?

A: Both lamps offer the same industry-leading 9-inch wide circular beam, which is the widest in the NDT industry. They also share a "fanless" cooling design to prevent dust and fluid intake. The EV6000 is designed for multiple specific aerospace standards, including ASTM E3022, RRES 90061, and AITM6-1001, whereas the EV6500 is typically favored for general industrial, automotive, and heavy-duty manufacturing where white-light versatility and maximum UV output are the priorities.
