When and How to Perform the Lift Test: Per ASTM E1444, AC yokes must demonstrate a minimum 10 lb (4.5 kg) lifting force and DC/permanent magnet yokes must demonstrate a minimum 40 lb (18 kg) lifting force. Test your yoke at the start of each shift, after any drop or impact, and whenever inspection results are in doubt. Use the leg positioning guide to place the yoke legs at the maximum pole spacing you intend to use during inspection — if the yoke passes at maximum spacing, it will pass at all shorter spacings. A yoke that fails the lift test must be removed from service immediately.
